I can't believe this young man was playing with a loaded weapon. You are trained in the Army about weapons and I think the police should look closer at this incident. I believe it was murder! Please check it out closer. God Bless our Military ... we have the right to say what we think because our military is protecting and fighting for those rights. This young man did not deserve to die like this! [ Report Abuse ]

Re: Uncle Kracker. Good job sir on standing up for your beliefs. You may call then however you see them. DRW was right I don't have the right to even think of saying you can't say what you want to say. We may not agree on this issue, but it doesn't call for being rude to each other. I'm retract my earlier statement. I just want it to be known that I will miss Cody and am proud that he did serve in the army. And will someone please tell me what is this about now she's killed two people? Who is the Seth Merriman? And what happened to him? [ Report Abuse ]

Uncle Cracker, so you were in then? If the opposite of my assertion is true as you claim, then you spent time in uniform? If you did, then you must have your grudge for some reason. Who else would malign Soldiers and Noncommissioned Officers? I think I have an idea of what goes on in the Army since that it what I have been doing for the last 22 years. [ Report Abuse ]

RE: Uncle Cracker- I think most Soldiers would appreciate if you just said thank you for guaranteeing the freedoms people like you tend to take for granted. It is not that Soldiers are bothered like people like you that criticize. You are free to make your comments because of the efforts of better men than yourself. Just keep that in mind as you sleep safe in your bed while brave men and women work, sweat and bleed. [ Report Abuse ]

What gives you the right to take away from what Cody was doing Ceila? Even though i don't agree with what uncle cracker wrote, he still has the freedom to do so because of the men that died to give him the right. I am ex Army soldier and i feel sorry for him and his thinking but, i fought for freedom for all not just a select few that want to shut everyone up.... In Cody's memory allow everyone to have a say even if you don't agree with them. [ Report Abuse ]

This is a terrible tragedy and we are all trying to get thru this. We don't need you to keep talking bad about the people fighting for our freedom, NO MATTER what branch of the military they are in. They ALL do their part in ensuring our freedom. So if you want to talk smack go live in Canada or Mexico, and for sure get outta Texas! God Bless the Patterson family for raising an American HERO! I know that she'll get what she has coming to her, and my thoughts and sympathies go out to Cody's family in this time of mourning. RIP Porkchop&Cody I pray that they will be the only two victims of this black widow. [ Report Abuse ]

Why Manslaughter instead of Murder? . . .well it has to do with culpability. Murder requires premeditation. And if she was intoxicated in some form as believed then it's wreckless culpability. Premeditation does not have to be proven which would be a much more difficult to convict. The lesser carries the same criminal sentencing but is much easier to convict. Rest assurred she will get hers. As for the family, may God bless you all. I know it's been one hard year - and I pray for you all. We love you. [ Report Abuse ]

Whats with all these soldiers getting killed in gun accidents? You hear about this sort of thing all the time whether someone shot them by accident or they shot themselves. Ive been around guns all my life, shot my first one when i was four years old with the help of my old man. Yet these nitwit soldiers cant seem to stop getting shot by their own weapon. This sounds like a witch hunt, i didn't know Cody but, i did know April and she's not the monster that's being portrat here. Her and my son dated for along time before she moved to Blum and she was a sweetheart, and wasn't a very smart girl. So, i guess she might know proper gun handeling. And, as a soldier he should have known not to have guns out when people are around.... I don't think he should have died but, think about the possibilties of her bad judgement. Intent is not proven...wait until court and see what the outcome is. [ Report Abuse ]

As a mother of a precious 12 year old son, I can't imagine what his mother is feeling. To his family, I'm not going to say I know how you feel, cause I don't. I think Uncle Cracker needs to learn to have respect for all who are in the military. This young man, who is around guns everyday, was murdered. NO one deserves death. If she cared at all and was an accident as she claims..most people would call for help...not run and hide. God is in control and justice will prevail. God bless this family. Knowing her it was no accident. She has a horrendous temper & would be the first to throw a punch just to get Porkchop's temper up. She is pure evil and deserves the death penalty. I have to agree w/ Celia on this, Cody knew better. That might be an excuse Jr. high kids can use to get away w/ murder, but this girl KNEW what she was doing. && Cody wouldn't have intentionally been okay w/ her pointing a gun at his chest && pulling the trigger as a 'joke'. She should be charged w/ murder. [ Report Abuse ]

How can she say that they were playing with a gun? Cody was a SOLDIER! From IRAQ! He knew better than to "play" with guns. She should be charged with MURDER, and not manslaughter. I really hope the investigators know better than to think a soldier would play with a gun. Cody was a wonderful person. I will miss him terribly. My thoughts and prayers are still with his family. I want to express my deepest sympathies to the family of Cody. He was always extremely polite and willing to help in different things that came up here at school. I remember one of our teacher's praising him for changing her tire for her when she was stranded on the roadside, and Cody refused to accept any payment for doing it. I know he was proud of being a soldier and being able to help his family, and it is a tragedy that he has been cheated out of the opportunity to do more and grow into the man he was to become. May God give him peace, and comfort Cody's family as only He can... [ Report Abuse ]

Cody Ryan was murdered in bed while he slept. On home for R&R for two weeks, he would have been safer in Iraq than Blum. Blum is a tiny town, with God-fearing residents and a strong sense of patriotism. How terribly tragic for this young man/soldier age 20 years old,who died a senseless death at the hands of this subcretin, Danielle. I do not know why the charge is only Manslaughter and not Murder. As a concerned family member, I will do my best to see that justice is served for Cody Ryan Patterson. He was coming into his own, and maturing/growing in the military service, proud of himself and his accomplishments. I have nothing but the utmost contempt for the scum who took his life, not even giving him the chance to defend himself, but killing him as he slept. A coward as well as a killer. [ Report Abuse ]

Less than 1% of the population has the courage to stand up to injustice and fight for what we believe is right. PFC Patterson, my brother in arms, was amonst that 1%. He served in as a gunner for a platoon sergant. this position is reserved for only the best in the Platoon. that in itself places him in the top 10% of the army. He was courageous, fierce, and honorable. May he and every other Brother and Sister of mine that has died to liberate Iraq from tyrany and opression rest in peace. Cody you may be gone from this world, but you actions, you devotion, and dedication to doing what you feel is right will never be forgotten. Rest in peace brother. You should all look up Texas Penal Code 19.02 and 19.04 A jury under the elements investigated would set a person free under a 19.02 murder charge and convict on a 19.04 manslaughter. Stop watching TV for your legal information. You could all put Perry Mason out of business, run for the legislature who make the laws of our state and nation that out law enforcement go by. Bottom line a young man lost his life and the woman was arrested charged with Law Enforcement and Army CID conducting a full investigation, unless someone is hiding something??, and now its up to the District Attorney to take this to trial or take a plea deal TWELVE people from Hill County will decide her fate. Remember his Family when you type.
