CAMP MABRY, AUSTIN (October 18, 2009)—Two soldiers assigned to the Texas National Guard’s 143rd Infantry Detachment have died in a bomb attack on their vehicle in Wardak Province, Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Chris Neil Staats, 32, of Fredericksburg and Spc. Anthony Gabriel Green, 28 of Matthews, N.C. were killed in the attack on Friday, the Texas Guard said Sunday.

Maj. John J. Ploch and Sgt. Todd L. Plybon were suffered what the Guard said were non-life-threatening injuries in the attack.

“The Texas National Guard family mourns the deaths of these dear friends and brave Soldiers and extends its deepest sympathy to family members and friends,” the Guard said in a statement released Sunday.

“They are in our hearts and prayers.”

These soldiers lives were so precious. My son was deployed last year out of this very same unit for the very same mission. He was hit by a roadside bomb and survived. These deaths are especially sorrowful for me. Could we comment on the sanctity of life and show great honor to these boys and their families without the flagrant comments on administrative question. War has been with us since Cain killed Abel. Man's heart is evil with the presence of God to conduce their wrath in another direction. Evil people hate America and it is their goal in life to destory us. We defend peace. We defend freedom. It's price is shed blood. Shed blood has been the price for Freedom since the Cross at Calvary. My deepest deepest sorrow for these families and my deepest gratitude to these brave men.

May God rest their souls. Just why are the reserves in Afghanistan after all of this time? This is left over abuse by the Bush administration. Seems like President Obama would have cleaned this up by now. I thought the Guard is to be used only as a backup to a sanctioned war or national emergency. State governors can call them for duty in envent of domestic emergencies and disasters. I like to know that they are here at home in full force to help our own country if such an event does occur. This is why Katrina victims were left stranded for such an extended period. Bush had our guardsmen stuck over in Iraq.
