SAN ANTONIO (October 19, 2009)-Fire officials say an 18-month-old baby is dead and the child's mother injured following a two-alarm fire at a San Antonio apartment complex.
San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood says the woman jumped off the roof of the building after the early Sunday morning fire.
She told firefighters her child was still inside before being taken to an area hospital.
An update on her condition not available early Monday.
Flames in excess of 75 feet prevented firefighters from entering the building.
Rescue crews found the child's body around 1 p.m.
About 25 people were displaced by the early morning fire.
Te building was a total loss, sustaining approximately a half-million dollars in damage, officials say.
Arson investigators are reviewing the fire.

YOU ARE ALL IDIOTS AND MUST NOT HAVE KIDS OR IF YOU DO IT SOUNDS LIKE THERE IS A LIMIT TO YOUR LOVE BECAUSE ANY REAL MAN OR WOMAN WHO LOVES THEIR CHILD WILL DO ANYTHING AND GO THROUGH ANY MEANS TO DO SO!
What a bunch of self-rightous fools. You don't have a clue what you would do if you were in this situation and to pop off and say you would do this or you would do this, indicates to me that you've never had to make any choices in your life that could be considered courageous.
Y'all make it sound like she quietly walked out of the burning building carrying her belongings and said "Oh by the way, my kid is still in there" Is it at all possible that she became overwhelmed by smoke and flames trying to get her baby and her only option was to get help? My guess is yes. Maybe the baby was sleeping in the next room and the fire came so quickly she couldn't get to him/her. What good would it have done if she had died trying to save the baby, at least getting help from firefighters gave the baby a chance. I bet had the firefighters actually saved the baby, y'all would be praising the mother for jumping off a roof to save her child saying you would have done the same thing. My thoughts are with the baby's mother and family right now, what a very sad story.
