BELL COUNTY (October 19, 2009)—Bell County constables arrested 27 parents who have not paid child support in a sweep that started last Wednesday and ended over the weekend.

The joint operation with the Texas Attorney General’s Child Support Division focused on parents wanted for not paying court-ordered child support.

"Parents have a moral and legal obligation to make regular child support payments," Attorney General Greg Abbott said Monday.

The parents were arrested on civil warrants and face as much as six months in jail for contempt of court for failure to make the payments, Abbott said.

If the parents post cash, bonds, the money goes to custodial parents who are owed child support.

Officials Monday urged other parents who are behind on child support payments and are named in outstanding warrants to turn themselves in at the Bell County Jail

Those not yet named in warrants should contact the Attorney General’s Child Support Division to arrange to make payments, Abbott said.

Pct. 1 Constable Luis Cortez, Pct. 2 Constable Roger Laird, Pct. 3 Constable Thomas Prado, and Pct. 4 Constable Edd Melton III participated in the sweep.

I also want to add that there are men out there who pay child support, are faithfully there to see their child every visition on time and really do care for their child/children. But the mothers abuse the child support money for her own use and puts the fathers threw drama. I praise fathers you handle their business and I can't stand women who use there child/children to get back at there ex men or just too lazy to get a job. Reguardless what happen in your relationship if he is paying child support, setting good examples, spending quality time with the child/children you have no right to denied him of his child/children. What happened between you and him should stay between you and him don't take it out on the child/children. Even through my childs father put me threw alot and doesn't do anything for his child I refuse to bad talk him to my child because one day when he gets older he will realize the situation and thank me for being there for him even throw his father wasn't.

We are entitled to make mistakes but ladies if the father of you child doesn't grow up and take care of his duty as a father stop having children with him. Push that love aside and focus on the greatest love of all your child/children. We have to do what is best for our child/children because they didn't ask to be here we brought them here. It pains me because there are so many beautiful children born everyday in situations like this including my son. Not only his father doesn't pay child support but he missing out on his sons life. Theres much more to being a Father then paying child support you have to be a positive role model and teach them values and responsibilities of life as well. But women have to realize its not best to have the bio father in the childs life if he is living a reckless life style (sale drugs) and etc. Putting your child in harms way or not being around setting bad examples for you child.Ladies wise up be strong stop waiting on the father take care of that child.

The AG office sets up the visitation but THEY DO NOT ENFORCE it, unless the other party has a lawyer there is nothing that can be done if you keep the child from the other party, especially if you think the other party is doing drugs you will be held responsible for letting the child go there, when you really dont have to! (like I sd unless the other party has a attorney-- but even then all you have to say is its my belief that he/she is doing drugs and dont want my child around that, they can argue but the point would get proven if a drug test was administered... yes the DL does get suspended once you get behind on pymts.
