Services Are Saturday For Army Paratrooper From Texas
Funeral services are Saturday for an Army paratrooper from Texas who was among six soldiers killed by a roadside bomb during combat operations in Iraq.

(March 17, 2007)--Services are Saturday in Roswell, N.M. for an Army paratrooper from Texas who was killed earlier this month in Iraq.

Twenty-seven-year-old Sergeant Andrew Perkins died March 5 while on patrol in Samarra.

Perkins was born in Lubbock and graduated in 1998 from Amarillo High School.

His father, Weldon Perkins, said his son loved the military and wanted to make it his life.

Perkins and five other soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division’s 2nd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team died in the explosion.

Also killed were Staff Sgt. Justin M. Estes, 25, of Sims, Ark., Staff Sgt. Robert M. Stanley, 27, of Spotsylvania, Va., Spc. Ryan M. Bell, 21, of Colville, Wash., Spc. Justin A. Rollins, 22, of Newport, N.H., and Pfc. Cory C. Kosters, 19, of The Woodlands, Texas.
