TEMPLE (October 22, 2009)--Temple fire and police units were at the scene of a high water rescue in far west Temple just about lunchtime on Thursday.

Temple Fire Department spokesman Thomas Pechal told News 10 the driver of a pickup truck ignored a high water warning barrier along Riverside Trail and drove into rushing water, where his truck flooded out.

Pechal said the man was perched on the hood of his truck when rescuers arrived.
A firefighter used a safety rope to reach the man, gave him a life jacket to put on, and then led him to safety.

Earlier reports indicated that a front loader was used to reach the man, but Pechal said those were incorrect.

The man was not injured, but will have to wait for the water to recede to retrieve his stranded truck.

Really. I have a feeling when one of you "brilliant" people need help you'll be singing a different tune. Think before you speak & learn to help your neighbor (treat others the way you would want to be treated).

This area is known for flooding. This back road can easily be avoided. If you live near there, you know that there are other ways around this spot and to AVOID it during rainstorms. I agree - this guy should have known better!

They should have left him there if he wasn't in immediate danger. Let him spend a day and a night on the roof of his truck and think about what STUPID! means.
