LAKE TRAVIS (October 22, 2009)—A dock at a large marina with about 40 boats attached broke loose in Lake Travis just above the confluence with the Pedernales River and floated away as heavy rains fell overnight, according to a National Weather Service report.

The Lower Colorado River Authority predicted the level of the lake would rise about eight feet as a result of the rain overnight.

Earlier rains had pushed the level of the drought-depleted lake up about four feet.

Even with the rain, however, the lake, at 644 feet, remains 22 feet below normal.

During the summer, the lake level dropped 50 feet below normal, the third lowest level on record.
