(October 26, 2009)—The National Weather Service has canceled a flash flood watch that was in effect throughout much of the day Monday for Navarro, Freestone, Lampasas, Coryell, Bell, McLennan, Falls, Limestone, Leon, Milam and Robertson Counties in Central Texas.

Some warnings remain in effect, however, as runoff from heavy rainfall continues to push streams and rivers out of their banks.

In Temple late Monday afternoon, several manholes were overflowing in the Bird Creek area from the 200 block of North 43rd Street to Lion’s Park and city officials were urging residents to avoid the area.

A small stream flood warning was in effect until 6:45 p.m. for Navarro County, where some roads remained closed late Monday afternoon because of flooding from rainfall earlier in the day.

In Freestone County, there were reports of farmland flooding from creeks and ponds.

A flood warning is in effect until late Tuesday night for the Navasota River above Groesbeck, where minor flooding is predicted as the river rises above flood stage Monday afternoon.

A flood warning is in effect until Friday afternoon for Chambers Creek near Rice in Navarro County where moderate flooding is predicted as the river rises above flood stage late Monday afternoon.

A flood warning is in effect for the Trinity River at Trinidad until further notice.

The river was five feet over flood stage Monday morning and moderate flooding is predicted.

A flood warning is in effect for the Trinity River near Long Lake until further notice.

The river was about two-and-a-half feet over flood stage Monday morning.

A flood warning is in effect until Tuesday morning for the Navasota River near Easterly affecting Leon and Robertson Counties where minor flooding is predicted.

A chance of showers and possibly thunderstorms remains in the forecast through early Tuesday morning, but forecasters say Tuesday should be mostly sunny with highs in the upper 60s.

That wasn’t the case Monday in Central Texas, where earlier in the day, high water forced road closings throughout much of the region.

In Killeen, Watercrest Road at Cody Poe Road and Little Nolan Road at Cunningham Road were closed Monday morning because of high water, but by Monday afternoon all roads in the city were reopened.

In Salado, residents were closely monitoring bridges and crossings as high rains continued to fall.

The Mill Street crossing in Salado was closed Monday as were several roads in residential areas, but the Main Street and Interstate 35 bridges remained open.

In Coryell County, CR 303, CR 260, CR 247 and CR 142 were closed by high water.

FM 185 was also closed in Coryell County.

In Limestone County, high water was reported on CR 752 near Lake Limestone and CR 456 near the Navasota River.

Earlier Monday in Navarro County, at least 15 secondary roads were reported to be flooded throughout the county including FM 6116, Northeast CR 2030 and 2120, Northwest CR 1160, Southeast CR 3010, 1020, 1030, 1040, 1060, 3144, and Southwest CR 1120, 3060, 3110, and 3010

The Interstate 45 turnaround at Chambers Creek was also closed in Navarro County.

In Milam County, water was reported over the road on Highway 46 South, FM 50 and Highway 6 south of Hearne.

In eastern Williamson County, CR 303 S, CR 382, CR 384, and CR 123 were closed Monday.

In western Williamson County, CR 251, CR 258, CR 177, CR 272, CR 214, CR 204, CR 259, and CR 174 at Brushy Bend were closed because of high water.

It's gonna flood and we're gonna deal with it, just like we dealt with the drought. Let it rain, let it snow, let it ice! We can handle it, and contrary to snowman's beliefs, we're not idiots! We're Texans! And we will be fine!
