GALVESTON (October 27, 2009)—Jury selection was scheduled to begin Tuesday in Galveston in the capital murder trial of the stepfather of a toddler whom authorities named "Baby Grace" after her unidentified remains were discovered in 2007.

Royce Clyde Zeigler II of Spring and his wife Kimberly Dawn Trenor, 21, were both arrested and charged in the death of the abused toddler, who was killed during what prosecutors said was a violent discipline session.

In February, Trenor was convicted of capital murder in her daughter’s death and sentenced to life in prison.

The body of the 2-year-old girl, later identified as Riley Ann Sawyers, was discovered in October 2007 in a plastic box on an island in Galveston Bay.

News accounts of the search for the battered toddler’s identity eventually led to the discovery of some of her relatives in Mentor, Ohio.

They helped to identify the child.
