(March 24, 2007)--Democrats say they're responding to the demands of voters by passing a war spending bill that requires the withdrawal of combat troops from Iraq.
Congressman Paul Hodes says the bill will help protect US troops, "after four years of a failed policy."
In the Democrats' weekly radio address, the New Hampshire freshman adds that the plan "holds the Iraqi people accountable for their own country."
Hodes says voters in his state sent a message last fall that Congress should "stop acting as a rubber stamp" for President Bush.
The spending bill provides $124 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
It also sets a September 2008 deadline for withdrawing combat troops.
The Senate is expected to take up legislation as early as Monday.
President Bush has promised a veto if it reaches him.
