DALLAS (October 28, 2009)--A paroled murderer and drug dealer who was found guilty in the overdose death of a Southern Methodist University coed whose body was found in 2007 in a portable toilet at a construction site in Hewitt was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday.

In June, a federal jury convicted James McDaniel, 49, of Dallas of causing the death of Meaghan Bosch.

Bosch’s body was found on May 14, 2007 in the portable toilet, three days after she was reported missing when she failed to meet her boyfriend for dinner.

An autopsy showed that she had cocaine, methamphetamine and oxycodone in her body at the time of her death.

Wednesday, U.S. District judge sentenced McDaniel to the life term, which will be served concurrently with the term McDaniel is now serving for violating the terms of his 2001 parole.

During his trial, witnesses testified they saw Bosch in his poker room near the SMU campus four days before her body was found, snorting cocaine and smoking methamphetamine.

Retired Texas Ranger Matt CawthonRetired Texas Ranger Matt Cawthon, who assisted in the investigation, told News 10, “This is a tragic situation (and) it’s not only being played out in the big cities, but right here in our own communities as well.

“(McDaniel) could have helped this individual instead of driving a hundred miles to put her in a (portable toilet) in Hewitt, Texas,” Cawthon said.

“This guy's wanton disregard for life…shows what a disturbed individual” he is, Cawthon said.

This is extremely disturbing, but it should be a lesson to young people out there. When I saw this beautiful young woman with a bright future (college student...no doubt supported by her parents), it hit me that there are way too many kids and young adults out there JUST LIKE HER. They hide their addictions and view it as just another way to "have a good time". This is the deception and lie of drugs. In this case, a life was ended. Don't fool yourselves...there is no such thing as "casual" drug use. Meth, especially, is the drug of choice for many middle to upper class young women (and men). It is cheap, readily accessible, easily hidden, causes weight loss & extreme energy (till the crash), and there are more people than you think doing it...people you'd least expect. My lesson for young kids...look at this life wasted due to poor decisions...all in the name of "having fun because it feels good". Very sad, but a teachable moment, nonetheless.
