WACO (October 28, 2009)—A Waco jury found Wednesday afternoon that the home of retired schoolteacher Kathryn Pace, 72, who has kept as many as 60 cats in and around the house, is a nuisance that can’t be repaired.

Jurors found that the house is a nuisance and that it cannot be repaired.

The ruling clears the way for the City of McGregor to force Pace to move out of the house, which then will be torn down.

The city filed suit seeking to have the structure declared a nuisance after complaints from neighbors about the stench from the house, which some residents said is so bad they can’t even walk outside.

An inspector said the inside of the 52-year-old house where Pace has lived for 38 years is saturated with urine and cat feces.

Pace had no comment as she left the courtroom after the verdict was returned Wednesday.

This lady is known throughout McGregor to physically reek of filth, and her grown grandson does, too. Wherever she goes, she leaves a stench behind her for others to suffer with. A local restaurateur has told of customers leaving their tables when this lady has come in to eat. NO LIE. She has been given many opportunities by the city to clean up, and she HAS been offered help, which she refuses. I honestly think that the city will do right by her in helping her find a cleaner, healthier place to live. This way, the neighbors will also have a healthier habitat, also. Everyone has rights here. All should be allowed to enjoy clean fresh air. Hopefully Mrs. Pace will come out the better for it.

What a shame the City and authorities did not do something sooner. Perhaps then this ladies house could have been saved. To me no mentally stable or sane person would live in those conditions. They are forcing her out of her home now, but they should have forced her to do something sooner. Surely McGregor has city ordinances so they most certainly could have prevented this disaster.

This is a huge health hazard, and if they have to raze the house then it is completely unsanitary and can spread disease to others in the area. SPAY AND NETUER YOUR CATS, PEOPLE. The fewer stray cats there are, the less likely this situation is to occur again! The lady needs serious mental health intervention, hoarding is a very sad disease and I guarantee all 60 cats will probably be put to sleep. It is not sad that they're razing her home; it's sad that no one intervened sooner before it got to this point.
