CORPUS CHRISTI (October 29, 2009)--A Corpus Christi woman convicted of killing her 4-year-old foster son by forcing him to eat a mixture of Cajun spices has lost an appeal of her life sentence.
Hannah Overton asked the state's 13th Court of Appeals for a new trial, but in a 95-page opinion handed down Thursday, the Corpus Christi-based court ruled there was sufficient evidence to support the Nueces County jury's 2007 verdict.
Overton was convicted of killing Andrew Burd by forcing him to consume the mixture of Cajun spices as a punishment.
Overton, a mother of five, said she intended the spices to satisfy the child's ravenous appetite and contended that his 2006 death could have resulted from salt he consumed on his own.
Prosecutors said she failed to seek medical attention for the child after the boy lapsed into shock and unconsciousness.

To justice, the only idiot seems to be you. I guess in your eyes child abuse is ok for punishment. Maybe you do need to eat some of those spices so you could know what that child went through.
Our Penal(Law) system must be changed! Why is this woman even allowed an appeal(?). She should have already been Lethal-Injected!! PERIOD!!! She costs 'us' $50,000 a year for her room/board/three squares a day. What Nonsense!!
