(March 28, 2007)--Rocker Sheryl Crow was on Capitol Hill Wednesday to urge Congress to pass a bill that would provide funds for researching any possible connection between breast cancer and the environment, legislation the Senate's top Democrat predicted will pass this year.
The Breast Cancer and Environmental Research Act would provide money to research centers to fund study on any possible links between the incidence of breast cancer and the environment.
Crow was diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago and told reporters "it's time for a cure."
She says the issue of the environment and breast cancer has not received enough attention from the press.
"We're looking into all these different scientific methods, with gene therapy with stem cells, it's all very encouraging but we have not tapped into the area of the environment," she said, adding "we have to look at the environment, we cannot ignore it anymore."
The bill was defeated in the Senate last year but Senator Harry Reid (D-Nevada) says that was last year. "We're going to complete this legislation in the Senate this year," he said.
