Community Rallies In Support Of Animal Shelter After Deadly Fire
Volunteers pitched in Monday as the clean up continued after a weekend fire at the Second Chance Animal Shelter in Killeen that left more than 100 cats and dogs dead, mostly of smoke inhalation.

KILLEEN (November 2, 2009)—Help was pouring in Monday from the Killeen area and Fort Hood after a fire early Sunday at the Second Chance Animal Shelter that left 95 cats and 15 dogs dead.
Most of the animals died of smoke inhalation and the rest had to be euthanized, officials said Monday.
The no-kill shelter remained closed Monday, but has surviving animals to care for.
Donations are being accepted at the shelter at 5510 Clear Creek Rd. in Killeen.
The shelter’s operators issued an urgent appeal for donations and assistance Sunday, which they say they need in order to keep the shelter in operation.
Killeen firefighters responded to the shelter just after midnight Sunday morning.
Most of the fire damage was contained to the kitchen area, but smoke filled the 5,000-square-foot building.
The no-kill; shelter opened in March 1998 and typically houses about 200 animals.
Animals kept at the shelter are euthanized only if they are terminally ill or too aggressive to be adopted.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

I just have to say that it is cold, preposterous, and ignorant of you, junor(?), to suggest that someone may have set this fire... Anyone doing what these people do every day takes exceptional personality in every way (which you obviously totally lack). I understand that tragedy happens every day (I've had my own) and the natural instinct (for some anyway) is to rush to help. But keep in mind, junor, the Fort Hood families (for instance) are not alone. They have a huge support system, beginning with the Fort Hood community all the way up to government. They have families they can turn to and get support from. What do animals have that are neglected, abused, alone, get in a bad way due to no fault of their own? NOTHING!!! NOBODY!!! NO PLACE!!! ONLY those of us that speak for THEM, and act for THEM. Total strangers that try to help those that cannot help themselves. Then some ignorant embacil like you comes along... Have you been to the shelter and met any of the wonderful people there?

as recent events have shown we have more to worry about than these animal, take the money and donations and give to fort hood families, this a common tactic among agencies that beg for donations, commit arson on their property and have some animals or people die to get the sympathy factor up and increase donations, people that run these no kill clinics are not the most honest people around
