(April 3, 2007)--A 76-year-old man who has cancer, diabetes and early stages of dementia has been sentenced to 15 years in prison over a 1979 slaying.

Lawrence Beryl Glass of Saginaw, who uses a wheelchair, was sentenced after pleading guilty in December to killing 53-year-Erasmo Flores.

Prosecutors say evidence showed Flores, who was shot to death, was having an affair with the gunman's wife.

State District Judge Elizabeth Berry rejected a request from the elderly man's lawyer for probation.

Defense attorney John Linebarger says Glass needs around-the-clock care that he won't get in prison.

But prosecutor Robert Foran says Glass had two decades to turn himself in or apologize.

The 1979 case was unsolved until it was reassigned to another detective in 2003 as part of police efforts to solve cold cases.
