Central Texas Congressman Chet Edwards said Saturday he will vote against the sweeping House health care reform measure because he thinks “there is too much new spending in the bill.”

Let me just say first of all - Chet "pack your bags baby" - the African American communities you represent should get the message loud and clear now! - the reform would benefit the poor and the minorities who dont have money piled in the bank due to sweet heart deals - look around people of color- Look at your schools (East Waco) look at your minority health care (oops - I forgot they dont have your support either - contracts so that they are the same playing fields as those you go to fundraisers with - Look at the crime, the "new and creative ways to build more jails and juvenile facilities - and your own back yard - the African American private instutions of education - Paul Quinn -oops that's gone too. The smart people leave this god forsaken place and dont wait around like poor Jesse Washington (90 yrs ago) for justice. Shame on you Chet - you have used these people for too long - its time to go....

As Joe remarked, his vote was motivated by political expediency--and that's just how it should be. We, his constituents, are mostly against this monstrosity of a bill that will help expidite our nation's bankruptcy, so Chet should have voted against it. That's why they call ours a REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY: our elected representatives should vote in line with the will of their constituents.

Kudos to Edwards for standing up for what Central Texans believe. We do not want government takeover of our healthcare! Chet just saved his job for next term. Even though he's a Democrat, he was smart enough to know this bill was and is disaster. Good thing this bill is DOA in the senate!

Please do not be duped by thinking Edwards is listening to the constituents.Chet jumps to the side that benefits HIM PERSONALLY at that moment. At one time Chet was a servant of Texas-He now has been swallowed by the DC machine and no longer has his district, state,or nation as his primary loyalty.BTW he announced not to vote for Healthcare AFTER it was determined the DEMS had the votes.Chet needs to remember how he got to DC-the same grassroots can send him home.Too bad-Chet could have been a power in DC.But he chose this road not us. I personally worked in DC with Chet on several rural projects.I see a man who had a great future as a statesman-to cast it all away.“Politicians are like diapers. They both need changing regularly and for the same reason.” Anonymous

I can't believe how many people typing in here are in favor of a proposal that will literally take away what remains of our freedom! Haven't you people done any research? Are you still taking the WORD of proven liars? WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO COMMON SENSE? For once, Edwards is making the right decision and has GAINED my support.

Political expediency. This was the man who said the outcry was manufactured and it was not his constituency speaking. Why the change. Maybe saw his job on the line?

You that want him to vote yes are NUTS just. I have read a lot of the bill witch I know is more than you have. It will finish banckrupting the country. and only provide health insurance to an added 8.2 mil and twice that will loose theres. Those of you that say vote yes read the BILL pages 91,146,830 this should change your mind. Its 1980 pages and if you think you will have a say in your medical treatment think again. If and when they come up with a good plan CONGERSS will all be in it. And not be allowed to keep there own. I hate to tell you all but most can buy ins. and 2cars a house cable tv cell phones mp3 playstation 3 and x-box and getting food stamps does not keep you from getting health insurance.

I have only lived in this area for ten years. Represenitive Edwards always seemed the right man. I truly dislike having to vote differently next time, but I can't abide a man that would turn against his own. This is not a man you would want to go into battle with.
