Oh please, people! It's as if you always thought lawyers were "honorable". And please, don't confuse "justice", "right and wrong", and "law"...they have nothing to do with each other. It's a game, and only lawyers lack the sense of moral balance to play it! [ Report Abuse ]

Okay so there are several of us who stand in belief that this A------- deserves to rot. But to those defending his right to a defense. Yes, we Soldiers past and present have and do fight to defend our precious Constitution. Sure- he has the right to that trial. HOWEVER--pull your heads out of your full point of contact and see that this so called "man" acted on his religious beliefs. NO "American" as you asked below would my views be different if he was a Christian. He would still be a monster who turned on his own for his own reasons and this act would be just as horrific. This isnt about his religion. It is about the victims and their families and closure for them that they should not have to be seeking. Those 29 injured and 13 killed should all be standing in closing PT formation right now and heading home to spend their last couple days with their families before deploying. Hasan deserves nothing. He offered nothing to anyone else but grief. [ Report Abuse ]

Innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law by a jury of his peers is a United States of America Society. The problem is the last phrase, jury of his peers. Will the Jury be of his peers, i.e., Majors in the US Army, Muslims of his background? No, if left in Texas and tried in a civilian court, his peers will be from the mental despots of Texans who still hold to the horse riding ranges they have seen on TV with the guns hanging on their hips and a mentality to hang first then ask questions. I am glad that Joe is on the case. the Major will get a fair and balanced defense according to the US Constitution not the Texas Justice System which is corrupt to the core. GO JOE!!! Everyone has rights in America, we just need to work on the healthcare and getting medication for those who need it. Let's all pray this doesn't happen again, it could have been prevented. I've known several Muslims who served in the Armed Forces, who served America, served as translators and special forces, and went to college on the GI Bill. Justice will be served, hate never solved any problems, only caused more problems. Show your support, for our troops, they need it now more than ever. [ Report Abuse ]

@ Nunya, because he believes in the constitution of this great nation. Every American citizen regardless of their crime is afforded a competent defense. This is not an issue of whether or not Maj. Hasan committed the crime, I am confident that he did, but it has everything to do with insuring he recieves the same treatment each of us are afford by being citizens of the US. I wonder, if you were accused of a horrific crime would you want someone to insure that your rights were protected, or would you rather you were treated as those in other countries such as China, Iran etc where innocence is rarely if ever contemplated. We might not have a perfect judicial system, but it's the best one I know of. [ Report Abuse ]

Those soldiers. Marines, airmen, sailors and Coast Guardsmen who secure us every day (and yes, I did my time in a blue suit, so I know of what I speak) take an oath on their sacred honor to defend the Constitution of the United States, and that document guarantees anyone accused of any crime a fair trial and adequate representation. Don't like it? Move. Honor is something you obviously know nothing of. [ Report Abuse ]

Mr. Galligan, you will be the last person I call if I ever need an attorney. You are a fool for even considering it. This will truly be your last case so I hope it was worth it. All you so called Americans who wish this lawyer ill: Look what you are saying. Where on earth do the accused not get representation? Here's a few -- Russia, China, Cuba -- Hitler's Germany. Those who believe defendants don't deserve representation need to move to one of those places where defendants don't get representation. If the government has evidence that Hasan committed this crime, (and I'm sure it does) he'll get convicted and get his reward. His lawyer will ensure there is no cause for reversal on appeal. You other folks aren't conservatives or any more American than anybody else, but you do have less of an understanding of our Constitution, and that's sad. The lawyer should be applauded for having the guts to represent the snake. [ Report Abuse ]

Terrorists didn't have rights until Obama told the Senate that they did. From the Patriot Act. DOMESTIC TERRORISM DEFINED- Section 2331 of title 18, United States Code, is amended-- (1) in paragraph (1)(B)(iii), by striking `by assassination or kidnapping' and inserting `by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping'; (2) in paragraph (3), by striking `and'; (3) in paragraph (4), by striking the period at the end and inserting `; and'; and (4) by adding at the end the following: `(5) the term `domestic terrorism' means activities that-- `(A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State; `(B) appear to be intended-- `(i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; `(ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or `(iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and `(C) occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States.'. Practicing Muslims should not be allowed to be in the military simply for this very reason. Their first loyalty will also be Muslim. To this end, this attorney should be ashamed to represent someone who has killed members of the military who are fighting to protect his Muslim rights and also the rights of the attorney. He needs to lose his military pension, and Hasan needs to be executed so he can meet with the 40? virgins who are waiting for him. I am no friend of Galligans and based on some of the articles he has written for the Temple Telegram, I am not sure about him as a person, but hey, you guys, in America, you have a right to a fair trial, and the very rights that these soldiers fight for are the ones that Galligan is about to fight for. While I think the devil needs to be tied to the nearest tree and shot, let's honor the soldiers who died for his rights and get off of Galligan's case and be glad that he has an expert in the field of military law so that when this lousy "terrorist" trial is over, we won't have to pay for it again, and the victims' families can have some peace and closure. Shut up Natasha from nowhere, this idiot is making a name for himself, Hassan should be found guilty without a jury since no one could find him not guilty after what he did to my fellow soldiers. This coward does not deserve anything less than death, and as quickly as humanly possible. He is an expert on being a Psycho and knows everything to do to to prove it. I wish that the original reports had been true that this SOB had been killed so that we did not have to see that another coward out there was going to defend this sorry excuse for a human being and soldier for the actions that he obviously thought out for a long time and executed with a clear mind; if this is not premeditated then what is, He went and prayed to Allah as all Muslims Extremists do before committing "Jihad" in the proper clothing and then went and killed the infidels in his planed way of killing others. As for Mr. Galligan, this is just publicity for the obvious liberal anti-execution people out there! [ Report Abuse ]

Being a retired Army Vet, this "Lawyer" should be extreemly ashamed of himself for even considering representing this Islamic Terrorist. This piece of garbage killed and injured alot of his supposed commrads in arms and he now wants to defend him. How can this be??? Now you can realise what this nation is turning into!! This terrorist does not deserve the right to live, he does not deserve the right to medical care paid for by OUR tax dollars, but, he does deserve the right to die by firing squad at the soonest possible moment. I'll even pay for the bullet. So, Mr John Galligan, prepare yourself, there are alot of real vets totally against you and your defense of this TERRORIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't want this guy put to death. I want him to live a long life in a small cell with one hour a day that he can go outside. But most important, he will think every day about the woman who shot him. That's a far greater insult than getting put to death. He planned to go out a martyr and all he got was being shot by somebody far inferior to himself in his culture. What a disgrace. He counldn't find a wife which would make it a greater insult. I want him to think about it day and night while he is in constant pain from his injuries. He is further dishonored that fellow Moslems learned he went to strip joints and especially that he had lap dances in a private room. I hope he has the best defense lawyer in the country and a perfect trial so there is no reason for appeal. I want him to suffer long and hard.

Marie, I agree with you. What this man did was a heinous act with horrible consequences. I think that he will receive due process and be found guilty. He is a traitor to this nation and a terrorist. He is not the first and will not be the last. U S Citizens tend to forget that even unto this day, we are still part of the Great Experiment in this world of violence, terror, and secular governments. Do not forget the thousands who have fallen in our current foreign wars nor those who have fallen at home in defense of this country nor the wounded. Maybe this time, this Veterans Day and this Memorial Day will be considered by Americans as more than just a holiday. Support not only your current troops but the veterans who have come before them in defense of this great nation. Attend your local Veterans Day parades and show your undying love and support for this nation. Attend your local Memorial Day services to honor those who have fallen not only in this war but in past wars.

When this goes to trial, the prosecution should do their very best to prosecute this killer. The defense should do THEIR VERY BEST to represent the killer. Why? Because when this is all over and the killer is stood in front of a military firing squad (I hope!), everyone should be able to say the process worked from start to finish the way it was supposed to work. Sure, it will cost money and time. BUT, if we take away the trial and shoot this guy for what he did, we will be on the path to becoming Nazis or Communists, or worse. Of course, if the scumbag is tried and gets off on a minor technicality, THEN we can shoot him.

We hate like no one other that this happened, but if this attorney represents this animal the correct way that the animal is entitled to be represented then Hasan will be found guily by a court of law and there will be no mistrial for him to get off scott free. If Hasan gets off then someone will assasinate him and then we will pay for a hero to be tried and convicted. Let them finish him in a court of law, if the family hired Galligan then the family should pay Galligan not the US tax payers. We all know the outcome of this Hasan is guilty of premeditated murder, he knows it and everyone else knows it and someone will finish him one way or another. He is a terrorist and this was proven when he walked into the SRC shouting Allah! I feel so sorry for the medical professionals having to tend to his needs how hard it must be for them to provide care to this murderer. Our hearts and prayers go out to the fallen soldiers families and to all those who serve for our freedom.
