LUFKIN (November 13, 2009)--A former East Texas teacher who was sentenced to nine years in behind bars after pleading guilty to having sex with a student was released from prison after serving four months.

A state district judge granted probation to former Hudson High School teacher Clark Lewing, 25.

The Lufkin Daily News reported that the order came at the request of the mother of the girl with whom Lewing had the inappropriate relationship.

At a hearing before state District Judge Paul White in Lufkin, the mother testified that her daughter blamed herself for Lewing's imprisonment and that keeping him there was harmful to her mental health.

The family says it did not initiate Lewing's prosecution.

Lewing will spend 10 years on probation.

Hudson is five miles west of Lufkin.
