VIROQUA, Wis. (November 13, 2009)—A rutting buck got into a fight with a 645-pound statue of an elk in Viroqua, Wis. and the statue’s owner now has a freezer full of deer meat.

The seven-point buck was evidently trying to protect its territory from what it perceived as a threat when it took on the statue in Mark Byre’s yard.

Byre later found the buck’s body nearby.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources investigated and listed the cause of death as "fight with a lawn ornament-lost."

The elk statue will require some repairs.

It wasn't an elk, it was a buck that took on an elk statue.
