VILLAGE OF VOLENTE (November 17, 2009)--State environmental officials consider a proposal this week that would allow the discharge of millions of gallons of treated sewage into a popular string of central Texas lakes.
The proposal to lift a 23-year-old ban of effluent discharges into the Highland Lakes on the Colorado River is sparking an outcry from waterfront property owners, elected officials and environmentalists.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is scheduled to give preliminary consideration to the proposal Wednesday.
If approved, officials say it would still take months or longer to implement new rules and conduct public hearings.
The Highland Lakes provide drinking water to more than a million people.

I'm glad to hear some of your comments on this. but if we actualy stop and think(using Lake Waco and it's tributarys, North-Middle-South Bosque Rivers, Septic tanks/Dairy Farms/Cow Lots/etc.perchlorate chemicals), then using the Brazos River next, not used for Waco water,(where does that water come from?), We are 'already' using/drinking treated-potable sewer water, that's treated before We drink/use it. Then the Waco Sewage Treatment Plant south-east of Waco(loop 340), dumps it back into the Brazos River for others to re-use through their Water Treatment Plants, for drinking water. But I still think We should use it for irrigation/livestock!! I'm glad I have water wells where I live!!
After the drought/dust bowl of the 1930's the states devised a plan to dam up the rivers and create aquifers to supply the needs of the people, livestock, and towns; the water they needed especially in times of drought. to dump sewage into this natural system of water/river and lake is utter lunacy..but its to be expected by a government which is in active rebellion to we the people. i say if they want to dump sewage into the rivers and lakes, then THE GOVT. CRIMINALS WHO DESIRE THIS CAN THEN SWIM and drink IN THEIR OWN EXCREMENT. ITS TIME TO THROW ALL THE BUMS OUT OF THE GOVERNMENT, AND IF THEY WONT LEAVE...THEN ITS TIME TO FORM A NEW GOVERNMENT.
This has been happening all over the world since 1968, even here in the US. There haven't been any "ill" effects of mixing the treated sewage water with rivers and / or aquifers so that it can mix with the existing water before being recycled into drinking water. I'm not a tree hugger by any means and the idea does seem crazy until you actually read up on it a bit. Of course getting past the image of sewage and drinking water will be hard for just about anyone to deal with but it does work and it is safe as well as environmentally sound. It's gonna be cleaner than the water that already exists in the lakes anyways so really no big deal in my opinion.
