BELLMEAD (November 17, 2009)-- Bellmead Police Chief Robert Harold, 67, said Tuesday he plans to retire early next year.
Harold says he informed city leaders Monday of his plan to retire in February.
Harold has been chief in Bellmead for the last 19 years.
He said he has other interests he wants to pursue, including starting an Internet radio station.
After a 26-year military career, Harold joined the Bellmead Police Department as a reserve officer in 1982.
He was the first black officer hired by Bellmead, according to the police department’s Web site.
After stints at Baylor and the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office, he was named chief in October 1990.
