HOUSTON (November 17, 2009)--The Texas Lottery Commission has taken a step toward adding the multi-state Powerball game to its roster.

Like the Mega Millions game, Powerball is known for its substantial jackpots.

Lottery Deputy Executive Director Gary Grief estimates the addition of Powerball would bring in an extra $35 million annually for the state Foundation School Fund.

The commission has been discussing adding Powerball to Mega Millions and the Texas lottery's other offerings since 2003.

The largest advertised Powerball jackpot ever was $365 million in 2006.

The largest Mega Million jackpot was $370 million in March 2007.

Parent in Texas:Troy, You are 'exactly' correct!! The Texas Lottery has been so poorly run since it was started it's pathetic!! And where has all the money/funds collected/interest paid actually gone to?? They sure have 'not' paid out anywhere near as much as they have collected!! And the last time I checked, a winner has to be paid out with(monthly/yearly) annuities, not cash!!! I'm with you Parent!! Maybe the money is going into the Texas General Fund!!

Great! The state installs ANOTHER way to suck money out of those who do not have it to give! The lottery is taking advantage of the poor by offering them some remote hope that they might get rich. I know of people who are so addicted to the lottery that they can't buy food or pay utilities! But the government won't let us smoke pot because it MIGHT harm us (contrary to every bit of scientific research done on it.) I live in a society full of feeble-minded SHEEP!

What they mean is that they "help" the schools in the rich white school districts get new computers and astro-turf football fields!
