Maybe people make bad comments because they have actually seen situations where the bus driver was at fault. I have seen it both ways. I always watch for school buses no matter as they carry children and that's enough to always be careful no matter if they are in my way or not.

Snow cone, I was thinking the same thing. I'm glad there were no serious injuries, but it looks to me like a minor fender bender. Not something 19 kids need to go to the hospital for.

Why do you automatically assume it the SUV drivers fault. School buses run out in front of me all the time. Particularly on Herring Ave. It like the bus drivers don't even look to see if there is traffic coming before pulling out.

School buses do not have seat belts in the event of fire or malfunction. The bus driver would be unable to get all of the seat belts off of the students before the bus burned or submerged or whatever the event. That is why the seats are tall and close together to help protect riders. Just thought I'd add this since I'm a teacher that just sat with students through 2 days of mandatory bus safety.

I have driven behind some of the busses. Some of the drivers are pretty bad. I have seen them driving down the MIDDLE of the road. Bumpy or not, the stripe in the middle means stay on your side. I can see how these things can happen. Not always the smaller vehicle's fault. Don't know if this was or not, but I can understand it happening. Just like the kids that get run over at times. I have had them jump out in front of me. I always watch for them, but others may not be as wary.

I cannot understand all these school buses having accitdents. People don't look out for these busess obviously or they are too much in a hurry and this is what happens. I would be afraid to allow my child to ride any bus.

I haven't ridden in or stepped foot in a school bus for over 25 years. Are school buses still not equipped with seatbelts? If not, you'd think in this day and age of what insurance carriers require, every school bus would be fitted with seatbelts.
