As the mother of a 21 year old Marine, also just promoted to Lance Corporal just a few weeks ago, this has really hit home. My prayers are with the Hefner family and to all of our military who are sacrificing so much for us! Semper fi

We are close friends of the Hefner family and watched Shawn grow from a boy to an American Hero. From the time shawn came to Waco, I was a part of the motorcade that brought him home to Hico. I can't tell you how much it meant to the family for all of the love, support, and honor that has been given to Shawn and his family during this tragic loss. I have never experienced anything as moving as driving through each town and people lined up waving flags, weeping, and loving this family. He was given full military honors like that of a dignitary. My husband officated the service and both of us are still in awe how one man from Hico has touched so many lives. Today Shawn is home and he will forever be in our hearts. Thank you to all that have shown your love, honor, and respect to him and his family.

Thank You KWTX for this article. There were flags waving here in Meridian too. There is a nice vieo on You Tube of the motorcade carrying Lance Cpl Hefner into Hico. Too bad none of the other Waco Media carried a story. I guess they were more concerned about "Oprah".

May God Bless you in this time of your lives. Your son gave his life, and we are thankful. I can not fathom the sorrow that you must feel. My son has joined the Marines and will deploy to San Diego in Dec. I will continue to pray for your family. Will you pray for mine?

About 20 TNMP employees paid honor to Shawn as the procession came through Clifton yesterday. I held the United States flag high with one hand while the other was on my heart and I was unexpectedly overcome with emotion. It was wonderful to see the highway lined with flags and people who for just a minute stopped to think of the price Shawn had paid for our freedom. I was impressed with the motorcycle escort, too. All of us at TNMP express to Shawn's family appreciation for their son. I will never forget how I felt yesterday - so proud to be an American! I sent an email to a friend of mine to tell her about Shawn's procession up Hwy 6 - I incorrectly spelled soldier as "solder". When I looked up the correct spelling I found that solder can be 'anything that joins or unites' - Shawn united us in Clifton yesterday.
