(April 24, 2007)—Coast Guard officials have unveiled the haul from what they are calling the biggest cocaine bust in maritime history.

Lt. Cliff Harrison, 25, said he had many boring days at sea where he was searching fishing boats for drugs only to find himself up to his neck in fish, but that changed in march when he discovered 756 bales of cocaine worth an estimated $300 million on the street.

The Coast Guard found it on a boat off the coast of Panama and arrested the 14 crew members on board.

Monday, it took 60 people to off-load the drugs from the cutter Sherman.

They had to drag them out of the ship's deepest hull using a pulley and rope and then use a good old fashioned assembly line to get them into the hands of the Drug Enforcement Agency.

All this was done under heavy security.

Coast Guard officers had their weapons drawn while sheriff's deputies patrolled the nearby waters.
