WACO (November 24, 2009)—Lucio Ruiz, 23, of Hewitt, who was named in warrants charging intoxicated manslaughter in a late-night crash in October that claimed the lives of two brothers, turned himself in to Waco police Tuesday.
Lawrence Torres, 25, of Waco and his brother Jerry Torres, 31, of Bellmead died in the Oct. 25 crash at the intersection of North 27th Street and West Waco Drive.
Initially, police said, Lawrence Torres was driving north on North 27th Street in a half-ton pickup truck when he failed to yield the right of way to the eastbound three-quarter ton pickup truck that Ruiz was driving.
But police said Tuesday Ruiz ran a red light at North 29th Street and West Waco Drive “at a high rate of speed and continued traveling eastbound.”
The pickup hit the truck in which the Torres brothers were riding on the driver’s side door when Lawrence Torres pulled out in front of Ruiz.
Lawrence Torres died at the scene.
His brother died en route to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.
Ruiz was taken to Hillcrest with what police said were incapacitating injuries.

To everybody running their mouth & pointing the finger, fact of the matter is if none of them were drinking & driving, all 3 of them would still be alive & living their lives & their family & friends wouldn't be in such turmoil, so instead of pointing the finger at the dead & the living, in reality all 3 ended up losing their lives...this world is full of ignorant, selfish, cold hearted people
friend of LT & JT There better be proof saying that he passed the stop lights. Who would be to blame if all three died. Or if it was the other way around. He would have and the other 2 lived. I know you would be on their side either way.
With today's Society, it's a 'dog eat dog' World. 'Nobody' seems to care about anybody else or anything else. no respect/concern at all. I personally know nothing about any of these people, or actually what happened, just what I've read/heard on the News Media/reports. This could have possibly been prevented by all parties. I'm sorry for the deaths.
