After The Turkey’s Done, Don’t Dump The Grease
It’s the time of year when oil and grease can cause major holiday headaches for workers at Central Texas wastewater treatment plants, and one area city is taking steps to keep the oil and grease from going down the drain.

WACO (November 25, 2009)—The City of Waco is initiating what it calls a Green Turkey program this year, the goal of which is to give residents an alternative to dumping oil and grease down drains.

“During the holidays, people cook turkeys and other foods that create a lot of left over grease and oil and then have to figure out what to do with that oil,” said Water Utility Services Program Manager, Kristy Wolter.

The city’s Water Utility Services set up five used cooking oil recycling stations around Waco and they’re hoping residents will use them.

At each site, residents will find a container with a large funnel, into which oil and grease can be poured.

“It’s really a fairly simple process,” Wolter said.

“We’ve tried to make it as easy and convenient as possible for citizens to dispose of their oil and grease in a responsible manner.”

The leftover grease and oil will be taken to the WMARSS wastewater treatment plant where it will be used to generate methane gas and electricity to run the facility.

Drop-off locations include the Riverside and Mt. Carmel Water Treatment Plants, WMARSS Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Cobbs Convenience Center and the Street Department.

Mix it with cat litter or oil dry, then put it in a container and put it in the garbage. Some can even re-cycle it into fuel for diesels(Remember!!).

Not a bad idea if this practice remains a volunteer program. However, I can see some liberal democrat (wacky environmental type) wanting our dictator president to make it a crime not to do this after every meal. You guessed it, I HATE DEMOCRATS!!!!

Any BBQ'ers out there? Used oil is great for starting your pit! No harsh chemicals needed, plus it adds just a bit of flavor...helps start any kind of fire.
