(May 9, 2007)—The McLennan County Grand Jury handed up multiple indictments Wednesday against Derrick Dwayne Grant, 24, in connection with the March 23 shooting of Daisy Ramirez, 23, who was shot as her 3-year-old child watched.
Grant was named in indictments charging aggravated assault, attempted murder, endangering a child and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Police said Grant was the victim’s ex-boyfriend and said he was wanted on a family violence charge before the shooting, which occurred in Ramirez’ apartment at 2425 S. 21st St.
Ramirez was shot repeatedly with a high-caliber weapon, police said, but she survived her injuries.
The gunman escaped in a DHL delivery van, which was found abandoned near North 22nd Street and Jefferson Avenue.
Grant didn’t work for DHL, but for a third-party contractor, police said.
He later surrendered without incident.
