(May 9, 2007)--A 20-cent tax break on gasoline prices during the summer was passed by the Texas House and is on its way to the Senate for consideration.

The price break is equal to the per-gallon tax Texas drivers pay when the fill up their tanks.

Retail prices of regular-grade gasoline rose an average of 9 cents to $2.87 per gallon last week, according to the weekly AAA Texas gasoline price survey.

The gas tax holiday was a surprising measure first debated Tuesday, but its future in the Senate is uncertain.

Motorists could use the break.

Prices around the state Wednesday ranged from $2.66 at a station in Beeville to as much as $3.37 a gallon at a station in Big Bend National Park and $3.15 at a station in Amarillo, according to Texasgasprices.com
