(May 10, 2007)--Seven American aviation experts have been sent to Cameroon to help with the investigation of a Kenya Airways crash that killed all 114 people on board.
Former National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Jim Hall says it's vital to determine exactly what went wrong because the accident involved a Boeing 737-800, the most modern version of Boeing's short-to-medium jets.
More than 5,000 Boeing 737-800s are in use worldwide, making it the latest version of the world's most popular airliner.
So Hall says any malfunction could have "very wide implications"
The investigation is focusing initially on why the pilot took off in a thunderstorm.
The Kenya Airways plane crashed seconds after takeoff.
One theory is that it flew into a storm cloud and was maneuvering when a strong gust of wind caught it and flipped it over, especially if it was banking steeply to one side to avoid a storm cell.
