LUFKIN (November 27, 2009)—A Texas man and three children who were traveling from Austin to East Texas died when their van collided with an 18-wheeler late Wednesday night.

The Department of Public Safety says in a report the driver of the Dodge van evidently made a
U-turn and pulled into the path of the oncoming 18-wheeler.

Todd Szymankiewiez, 35, of Austin, his 4-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter were pronounced dead at the scene.

Dakota Klein, 14, of Pflugerville also died at the scene.

Two others in the van were taken to the hospital in stable condition.

I went to school with Dakota, I didn't know him as well as i wish i do now. He was so young, but i guess God wanted him up there more than we need him down here.
