(May 29, 2007)—A chemical spill Tuesday closed the Williamson County Tax Appraisal Office in Georgetown.

Workers found the yellow substance in the central file room near the janitor's closet Tuesday morning.

Authorities later identified the chemical as ammonium chloride, which is used in fertilizer.

Several people tried to clean up the spill, but the fumes made them sick.

Paramedics treated eight people on the scene.

Sixty-seven employees and members of the public were in the building at the time.

Hazardous material crews from several Williamson County cities were on the scene.
