BU Letter A Hoax; Scares Many Campus-Area Residents
Police are investigating after many residents in the Baylor area received letters that said they would be forced out of their homes, which would be razed to make way for construction of a $255 million on-campus football stadium.

WACO (November 28, 2009)--Baylor police are investigating a hoax letter that was left under doormats at scores of campus-area houses and apartments Saturday morning, claiming that Baylor University would be taking over the property in the near future.

The letter, which bears a Baylor letterhead, says, “This letter is to inform you that the new Baylor University football stadium will be built on this location. This $255 million dollar project is for all of Baylor University students, alumni, staff, faculty and families of the greater Waco community. The attached maps show the property that is going to be used. This house is located within the property intended for construction."

The letter goes on to say that surveyors would inspect homes to estimate value and that Baylor would eventually purchase the properties for the project, which the letter said would begin in March 2010.

Baylor said the claims in letter are "absolutely false" and that such plans are in the works.

Baylor police officers were going door to door in an area bounded by South 12th Street and University Parks Drive and Interstate 35 and La Salle Avenue, collecting the hoax letters and talking to residents.

Officers collected 232 letters during the neighborhood canvass, Baylor said.

Baylor issued a statement saying, "The University was not involved in the distribution of the notices or the effort that they describe.

Police are investigating the matter."

Dear "Someone": In case you come back ....you must be very ancient since I'm 63 years old. And the whole 'element of domain', as it is being used, is unconstitutional BS! The Constitution provides very limited reasons for legal confiscation of anyone's property. Read it!

One thing I can truly say, no matter what the size of the football stadium you need the fans. I stand by my team when they win and when they lose. That is what you do.I have always said that Baylor would be a great team if they had the backing. The young boys work hard they try hard and they never give up. Yes that is your local team BAYLOR. But the fans are don't there. I watched the Baylor game on TV and the crowds were leaving. I just don't see paying all that money on something that will go to waist.
