(June 4, 2007)—Investigators in Dallas and Central Texas were looking for leads Monday after a 21-year-old Waco area man was shot to death, after meeting a man from whom he planned to buy a car.
Family members say the victim was set up for robbery and murder.
Christian Marton of Axtell drove with his girlfriend Sunday to Dallas, where he planned to buy a 1995 Chevrolet Caprice that he had located over the Internet.
The seller met him at a fast food restaurant and then led him to an apartment complex in the 8900 block of Vantage Point Drive.
The car didn’t appear to be at the complex, but then a man demanded Marton’s money and after he got it he shot the 2004 Axtell High School graduate to death.
Marton’s girlfriend was not injured.
Family members say they think Marton was set up.
They said Marton talked to the seller, who has not been identified by name, on Thursday.
On Saturday, they say, Marton received a text message from the man saying that the sale must be completed by Sunday and that Marton needed to pay in cash.
