KILLEEN (December 4, 2009)—Brandon Gregory Rendon, 20, and Avanti Amar Leon Bagus, 24, both of Killeen, were in the Bell County Jail Friday charged with aggravated robbery in connection with a robbery early Friday morning at the Motel 6 at 800 East Central Texas Expressway in which the 25-year-old clerk was shot.

Their bonds were set at $100,000 each.

The clerk suffered a grazing wound and was taken first to Carl R. arnall Army Medical Center and then was transferred to Scott & White Hospital in Temple in stable condition, police said.

The two were arrested about 90 minutes after the robbery about five blocks away outside the Kettle Restaurant at 1301 East Central Texas Expressway after police received a report of a disturbance at the popular diner.

Witnesses at the Kettle said, before police arrived, one man was in a heated discussion on the phone while another man was arguing with a woman outside of the restaurant.

A second woman soon arrived at the restaurant and began arguing with the man who had been on the phone.

Kettle customer Jim Sanders told News 10 he and other patrons of the restaurant intervened when the verbal dispute escalated among the two couples.

When one of the males displayed a weapon, Sanders said he called the Killeen Police Department.

"He lifted his shirt up - and had a gun right there - and made sure everybody saw it," Sanders told News 10.
