LUBBOCK (December 8, 2009)—The Plainview ISD will no longer rent out its school buses for parties after some Texas Tech students in Lubbock drank shots of liquor on board a district bus.

Two Plainview Independent School District buses, operated by First Student School Bus Transportation Services, were rented over the weekend, and Superintendent Ron Miller said Texas Tech students used the buses.

Bonnie Bastian with First Student, which provided the drivers, says alcohol is never allowed on district-marked school buses.

Beta Theta Pi's Ryan Vissotzky says the "shot buses" were used to transport members to events at other locations before a fraternity Christmas party.

Vissotzky says buses were rented "to keep everyone safe."

A neighbor called police to report that inebriated students were getting off a school bus and were carrying cups that evidently contained booze.

Pro: ISD makes money renting buses (with drivers), COLLEGE kids get to party with NO DRINKING AND DRIVING Con: ISD doesn't want their name associated with drinking. Solution: When renting the bus, cover up the name on the side! Gee, how hard was that one? Everyone wins and no one is killed.

I didnt know schools rented out school buses. Someone looking to start a business in Lubbock ought to start up that service. Rent out buses...for frat parties and sort of a limo service for college kids. I would be willing bet that many of those drinking on the bus were under age.
