WACO (December 10, 2009)—Caterpillar, Inc. announced Thursday it plans to add a 75,000-square-foot precision manufacturing center for additional work-tool production at its Waco facility.

Work tools are the attachments used on a variety of the machines the company produces and require precision machining, heat-treating and assembly and testing in a controlled environment, the company said.

The center will be adjacent to the company’s existing work-tools manufacturing facility in Waco, which has production lines for hydraulic excavator buckets and quick couplers, the company said.

Caterpillar also operates a work tools distribution center in Waco and Caterpillar Logistics Services, Inc. operates a parts distribution center here as well.

“Waco and the state of Texas offer a very positive business climate for globally competitive companies like Caterpillar,” said Larry Pillers, Waco work tools project manager for Caterpillar.

“We have developed a very strong working relationship with the community and its leaders, and we look forward to opening this new facility in Waco.”

Work on the facility is expected to begin in February and the facility is scheduled to open in early 2011.

HOLT CAT and Caterpillar Work Tools are not the same thing, Holt Cat is the dealership for Parts, Service and Sales on your Caterpillar Equipment and Cat Work tools is the manufacturer for the buckets, etc. Much like Ford Motor Company and Bird Kultgen. Get your facts straight before you mouth off anonymous, If you are unhappy with a reapir why dont you go into the dealership on loop 340 and talk to someone. Cat Work tools will need machinists, and other workers, check with the Texas employment Commission.

Any news is 'good' news, even if they do recall or transfer other of their workers to Waco!!! Means housing needed, food bought, and local sales tax paid!!! And to Anonymous, this has nothing to do with local Cat service companies!!

Pauline, Cat will transfer workers or recall laid off workers from other facilities to waco. Thats typically the way it works with Cat... if this actually comes to be. I wouldn't look for a flood of locals being hired.
