PHILADELPHIA (December 11, 2009)—More than two-dozen people were in custody Friday as New Jersey and federal law authorities say they've broken up a network that smuggled marijuana and crystal meth from Mexico to southern New Jersey.

By Friday morning, 28 people had been arrested in New Jersey and Ohio.

Authorities said the drugs were moved from the southern Mexico state of Jalisco to McAllen, Texas.

From there, they, say, the marijuana was usually mailed from there to various people scattered around southern New Jersey.

The meth was smuggled to Columbus, Ohio and then driven to Hammonton, N.J. to be distributed.

Authorities say the group brought about 4 to 6 pounds of meth and 100 to 150 pounds of marijuana to New Jersey weekly.

They said drugs were sold in homes and bars or delivered to buyers.
