CHILTON (December 11, 2009)—Falls County sheriff’s deputies and a Central Texas veterinarian took a second look Friday at a makeshift horse rescue facility in Chilton and reached an agreement with the woman who took in the horses to move some of the animals.

Arrangements were made with several area landowners to adopt the horses and a veterinarian will continue to monitor their care, Falls County Sheriff Ben Kirk said Friday afternoon.

Five horses were moved off the property Friday and four others will be moved over the weekend, Kirk said.

Authorities determined that the horses were provided with adequate food and water, but Kirk said the recent rain and a lack of space combined to create conditions that led some residents to conclude the animals were being abused.

A group that included some Chilton students gathered Thursday outside the facility to protest the horses’ treatment.
