WILLIAMSON County (December 17, 2009)-One person is dead following a two-vehicle collision Wednesday morning involving a jeep and an 18-wheeler.

Department of Public Safety dispatcher Scarborough told News 10 the collision occurred at 8:46 a.m. Wednesday along US 183 in Williamson County.

Reading from the motor vehicle collision report, Scarborough said Thomas Justin Fajkus, 21, of Kempner, was traveling northbound in his 1994 Jeep behind a 2006 Peterbilt 18-wheeler, driven by Michael Sample of Round Rock.

The DPS trooper investigating the collision determined that, when Sample veered left to make the right-hand right onto Williamson CR 258, the Jeep moved to the northbound shoulder of US 183 to pass on the right.

While trying to evade the first truck, the Jeep struck a second 18-wheeler, a 2001 Peterbilt driven by Miguel Medina Pastenes, of Round Rock, which was waiting at a stop sign to turn onto US 183.

Williamson County Justice of the Peace Edna Staudt declared Fajkus dead at the scene at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Fajkus' body was taken to the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office in Austin for autopsy.

Neither Sample nor Pastenes was injured in the collision.

It would also help if big rig drivers remember that regular folks use the same roadways. The big rig driver drove away without stopping.

Sorry for the death, but it sounds like people need to slow down and have more patience. Drive Friendly.
