HOUSTON (June 14, 2011)—An 8-year-old boy shot his 5-year-old brother to death Tuesday in a Houston motel room where the two were staying with their father, police said.
The incident happened about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at a Motel 6 on Interstate 10 in the western section of Houston.
Police Sgt. Bobby Roberts said the boys' father left them alone for a few moments to pay for the room and when he returned, the older boy ran out to meet him and told him about the shooting.
The father went inside the room where he found the younger boy lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Roberts says the shooting was evidently accidental.
He said the Harris County district attorney's office will decide whether the father will face charges.
