Day after Day, wounded troops from Iraq arrive at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, about three miles south of Ramstein Air Base.
Many of them are from Fort Hood's First Cavalry Division.
" It could take anywhere from ten to 45 minutes for the bus to get here from the airbase so we just get everything ready and wait," said Sgt. Mathew Mullins.
Lining up gurnies is a routine hospital staff members are used to by now. They have to be ready for anything when the wounded soldiers arrive. Some of the troops are able to walk off the buses themselves. Others aren't so lucky.
1st Cavalry Division, Staff Sgt. John Grimnes has been stationed at Landstuhl Medical Center since January. It's his mission, along with two of his comrades to track the 1st Cav Injuries.
" We are doing our best to identify the first Cav soldiers, so eventually the information can get to the commanders, their families and to the other soldiers, because from what I've seen, a lot of the soldiers feel bad about being separated from their buddies," Grimnes said.
"The types of wounds we're seeing are mainly blast wounds, " said Lt. Col. Richard Jordan, a physician at the Landstuhl Hospital.
Jordan says since the war transformed into an insurgency battle, many of the soldiers being flown in for care are in critical condition.
"The IED's or Improsed Explosive Devices are taking a toll , the body armor is protecting our soldiers, but we're seeing lots of extremity wounds and some traumatic amputations, " he said.
That's why Staff Sgt. Grimnes and the other 1st Cav soldiers stationed at Landstuhl say they're working extra hard to stay on top of the their job.
"Some weeks are better than others, anytime you see your guys wounded from your unit, or any unit, you just don't want to see them in such a condition, " Grmines said.
Officials say since January, hundreds of Fort Hood's First Cavalry Division soldiers have been transfered from Iraq to the Landstuhl hospital.
Some of them will go back to Iraq, others will be returned to Fort Hood once they've recovered.
