High Water Strands Rural Central Texas Mail Carrier

LAMPASAS COUNTY (January 29, 2010)—High water on CR 3420 in Lampasas County stranded a rural mail carrier Friday as heavy rain continued to fall across most of Central Texas.

Two Adamsville firefighters, Assistant Chief Antony Elton and James Shirtlift, responded and Elton’s fiancée, Christie Allen, photographed the rescue.

When firefighters arrived, the mail carrier had gotten out of his SUV and was sitting in a car with a game warden, Allen said in an e-mail to News 10.

The firefighters removed the mail from the stranded SUV.

A wrecker from Lampasas arrived later and pulled the vehicle out of the water.

“The man was lucky to make it safely and we are all thankful for that,” Allen wrote.
