MCALLEN (February 2, 2010)—David Ray Ramirez, a fifth grade teacher at Rio Grande City's General Ricardo Sanchez Elementary School, continued to teach for more than a month after he was named in a federal drug trafficking indictment.

U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents arrested Ramirez, who’s known on the street as Devil, last week at the school.

School district officials said they were never told about his arrest or his indictment on Dec. 10 on charges of conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute at least 1,000 kilograms of marijuana.

Ramirez, who has been detained since his arrest, was scheduled to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge J. Scott Hacker for a detention hearing Tuesday in Laredo.

"Bill" I agree with you but "Bob" maybe you should'nt worry so much about the way people spell and our grammar but who is teaching our kids. I am sorry but I do not want someone that is doing, trafficking or even around drugs to be teaching or being around my kids.

To "Lation"... WHAT A BUNCH OF HORSE DUNG!!! It is ignorant, stupid, racist people like you that keep the stupidity of racism going in this country. Your statements are so ignorant, they don't even deserve a response... Get a life and start opening your eyes, screwball.. people of all races are involved in bad things... and by the same token, there are people of all races that are honest, hardworking and caring...

From the way all of you have written your comments. Not a single one of you have any room to judge him on his abilities as a teacher. Why? Because look at what and how you wrote your comments. Each of you has either incorrect spelling or grammar in your written comments. No wonder Texas is 49 out of 50 states in poor education. I only hope you do not try to help your children with their homework especially english or writing. No I am not an educator, just a person who takes pride in what they write and how it is written. Old school you could say.
