(June 6, 2007)--On the same day Texas declared its worst flooding in 50 years, another afternoon of imprisoning rain pushed Chrissy Lodmell to a milestone of cooped-up desperation.
The suburban mom is among countless parents who have been held captive by weeks of torrential rain.
Families are marking the days by missed hours at the pool, movie rentals, washed-out baseball practices and eyes glazed by time-killing video games instead of playing outdoors.
And, well, it's beginning to drive parents and kids a little nuts.
Of course, such gripes are trivial compared to some of the problems reported throughout the state.
Steady rain has caused catastrophic flooding, has damaged or destroyed more than a thousand homes and has killed at least 13 people and left at least four others missing.
While harried parents certainly sympathize with Texans suffering the storms' most dire effects, dealing with a smaller problem has them running low on ideas.
The same goes for summer camps that are teeming with fidgety children.
More than 2,600 kids attend Dallas-area YMCA summer camps daily.
But swollen lakes gobbling up park space and rained-out field trips to zoos and amusement parks have exhausted counselors' contingency plans.
