NAVARRO COUNTY (February 8, 2010)—Thirty people were charged with gambling after a weekend raid on an illegal cockfight in Navarro County and the owner of the raided property, Ramon Robles of Dallas, was charged with cruelty to livestock animals, a state jail felony.

Robles was free on $10,000 bond Monday.

The 30 who were charged with gambling all pleaded guilty and each was fined $200, the Navarro County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

Most of those who were at the cockfight Saturday on FM 744 in western Navarro County were from the Dallas-Fort Worth area, although some came from as far away as Georgetown, the sheriff’s office said.

The Dallas Chapter of the Society to Prevent Cruelty to Animals took 187 live chickens from the scene.

Authorities found 17 dead roosters and seized five firearms, the sheriff’s office said.
