SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (February 13, 2010)--Ten Baptist missionaries from the U.S. who are detained in Haiti are facing a possible delay in their provisional release because of questions about their legal adviser.
Officials in the Dominican Republic say the man doesn’t have a license to practice law in his native country.
The New York Times reported a Haitian judge might delay the group's release because of questions about the Dominican man's possible links to a human trafficking case in El Salvador.
The Times reports authorities believe Jorge Puello looks like a man suspected of leading a trafficking ring there involving women and girls.
Puello denied any connection and said he had never even been to El Salvador.
The Baptists were detained in Haiti for allegedly trying to take 33 children out of the country without proper authorization following the country's Jan. 12 earthquake.

This tragedy, however, has born witness to the generosity of Americans once again and others throughout the world who have given of themselves financially – donating roughly $528 million as of late January. But long before the earthquake put Haiti on the world radar screen, it stood out for its dismal standard of living. For generations Christian missionaries have come to do what they could. They were there on January 12 before the bottom fell out. A few of them even made the ultimate sacrifice. Tom, do you know these people? Or do you simply hate the Christian values they stand for? I personally know someone who has known one of the men involved and states that he is a man of great character/integrity and their mission was well intentioned just poorly executed. That is the same conclusion the Judge who heard the case also had. What do you base your statement on?
Missionaries? I dont think so... stealing kids for the black market yet. Sure send them home, and then the FBI better start looking long and hard at all of them.
