GATESVILLE (February 16, 2010)—Gatesville police Tuesday identified the two victims of a deadly shooting late Monday afternoon outside of the Coryell County Courthouse as Carrie Dean Stroope, 42, and David Louis Henry, 46, both of Gatesville.

Henry was a prison maintenance supervisor at the Lane Murray Unit

Police said Stroope and Henry had been in a relationship that had ended and that the woman was seeking counseling.

Witnesses told investigators Stroope walked up to a car in which Henry was sitting and the two began to argue.

Witnesses said Henry then got out of the car, pushed Stroope to the ground and shot her several times.

He then ran toward the courthouse doors and shot himself on the courthouse steps, police said.

The courthouse was closed at the time because of the President’s Day holiday.

A businessman who works on the courthouse square said he saw the man identified as Henry, who was carrying a gun, get out of a silver car and then shoot the woman four times.

He then shot himself, the businessman said.

A businessman who works about two blocks from the courthouse told News 10 he heard two loud pops shortly after 4 p.m. Monday, but said he didn’t think much about them until he heard the sirens at short time later.

Sheriff’s deputies, police and paramedics responded.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Being Carries cusuin I belive he took a good womans life in cold blood. Murder is murder. If he where any bit of a real man he wouldn't have taken his own life. He would have rotted in prison like he deserved. So do I belive he deseaves a good name? No I do not. To those who say he was a good father I didn't approve of my cusin being with him. I found him erisposible no GOOD father takes his child to the back door or hangs out with lowlifes ither. As for the idoits hitting the wiccan subject. You aern't proving anything besides how stupied you are. Religon doesn't make a person. Alot of people on here im geussing are under 25 and are still very childlike so they obvously don't comprehend adult matters. I don't belive bashing his whole family is right. They didn't all murder a person. Just he did. He will rot in hell for it. Wether he was a good father or not (there are children) involed. So if you have any decentcy stop talking about the whole family. Rest in Peace Carrie.

To all the ignorant people who are latching on to the Wiccan bashing thing: I'm having a hard time establishing much of a difference between the witches and witchcraft/spells of the Wicca versus preachers/priests and prayers/rites of Christanity. Just because you're used to and raised around one belief does not make it the 'right' way, so using a different religion as a clutch onto which you can blame evil is like calling the kettle black. You see, plenty of Christians do very bad things to. Keep the religion stuff out of it if you want to sound remotely credible and intelligent.
