Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst told reporters Friday that August is better than July for another special legislative session on school finance reform because several issues remain unresolved.

Dewhurst made the comments after speaking at the Texas Public Employees Association annual meeting in Austin.

Gov. Rick Perry called lawmakers into special session in April to try to pass a school funding plan to replace the current system share-the-wealth system, but lawmakers couldn't agree on a new school funding method.

Perry has said that an appropriate time to summon lawmakers backto Austin is when he believes an agreement among legislative leaders is imminent.

Lawmakers would need a plan by late August if it includes proposed changes to the state Constitution for the November ballot.
